Blogs about education
So this week I decided (erm... Avraham decided for me) that I will be following some Education blogs.
My first criteria is that the blogs I will follow are made by women. This is an important criteria because I believe women's work need to be valued.
So I am following The Innovative Educator by Lisa Nielsen and The Cool Cat Teacher by Vicki Davis.
The third one is Edutopia, but just because I have read this article from them last week and considered it a divine sign! Dr. Richard Curwin is talking about how important is the opening of each class. Of course the first thing he says is that we must think that our own class is interesting. If the class subject is boring even to the teacher, why the students should feel like engaging in the class?!
This made me think about Leah. Leah is the teacher's assistant in my 4 years old daycare. She greets the children everyday with a huge smile and a warm "Shalom!". I must admit that sometimes I want to take my son to daycare in order to be greeted as well.
And since we are talking about openings, this is also an interesting article: Seven Ways to Start a Great Lesson.

Maya, you're a natural blogger! I like your writing style.
First time ever anyone used a criteria like that to pick out the blogs to read...
Hey Maya,
I read the article you shared and I really enjoyed it. I started teaching 5th grade in my practicum and I am finding a hard time keeping their interest the whole time. I find that brainstorming and visual pictures do work. I think that the first five minutes are critical and I posted the article on my blog to make sure to keep those tips in mind. The idea of introductions to a class usually has the same effect on me when I am sitting in a class. Although I do think that introductions do not usually reflect completely on the class or subject.
